A man is dead after Mounties tried to make an arrest at the victim's Cold Lake First Nation home on Thursday, said the RCMP.
Mounties went to the home with the intent of arresting the 52-year-old man when a fight broke out, leading to RCMP members opening fire.
The man was shot and taken to Cold Lake Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said RCMP Sgt. Josée Valiquette.
"The RCMP has reported this incident to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team," Valiquette said.
"ASIRT is currently on scene and their independent review of this incident is ongoing."
This is only the latest in a recent spate of RCMP shootings in Alberta this month.
The August long weekend saw Wetaskiwin RCMP detachment members pull over a suspected impaired driver near Ma Me O Beach, south of Edmonton.
RCMP say there was an altercation and the officer shot two men who were in the car.
A 30-year-old man from Pigeon Lake, Alta., died and a 41-year-old man, also from Pigeon Lake, was transported to hospital in Edmonton.
Earlier that weekend, RCMP in Grande Cache shot and wounded a man who has since been identified by family as Curtis Hallock, a regular character on the reality TV show "Mantracker."
Relatives say that Hallock was shot in the leg and arm.
The following day, RCMP in Leduc, just south of Edmonton, used a Taser while trying to arrest a suspect in a series of assaults, thefts, driving complaints and hit-and-runs. The 27-year-old went into medical distress while in handcuffs and later died in hospital.
