Whistler Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival Sounds Like A Gouda Time

TORONTO - Eating cheese is good. Chasing cheese as it rolls down a hill? That's Gouda.

The Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival in Whistler, B.C., is set for Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. It is headlined by its marquee event, where cheese whizzes barrel down a slope on the resort town's Blackcomb Mountain.

There's no cash prize involved, but the winner will earn a five-kilogram (11-pound) wheel of Pacific Pepper Verdelait.

People older than 19 can participate in the event, with registration opening the day of the festival at 11 a.m.

There will be seven men's and four women's races, after which the winner from each round will face off to find out who is truly the big cheese.

If the main event isn't to your taste, the festival — hosted by the Dairy Farmers of Canada — also promises children's activities, costume contests, seminars and sample-filled markets.

Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version stated the day of the event was Sunday instead of Saturday.
