Fatal Surrey hit and run deemed a homicide

A man died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Surrey, B.C. early this morning, and police have now deemed the death a homicide.

At around 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning, a dark-coloured pickup truck struck a pedestrian in the 10600 block of 135A Street in North Surrey.

Police in Surrey say the driver then took off. The victim, who has not been identified, died in hospital from his injuries.

Just before 10 a.m. PT Saturday morning, the Lower Mainland's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, IHIT, announced it had taken over the investigation.

Police are still seeking tips on the vehicle and the driver.

A young man was struck just north of the crosswalk at 107A Avenue on King George Boulevard at around 12:15 a.m. Police officers were flagged down on the street, and arrived to find the victim lying in the road.

Police say he was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police do not have a description of the suspect vehicle, and are asking for tips to be called at (604) 599-0502, or anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
