Mercier Bridge construction completed

Major construction on the Honoré-Mercier Bridge has been completed between Montreal and the South Shore.

Lanes reopened Monday morning in both directions for the first time since construction started July 12.

The federal corporation that manages the bridge — Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated — had originally planned to complete the work by Sunday, August 11. However, shortly before the deadline, it decided to extend work until August 19.

During the five-week construction blitz, workers replaced the deck of the federal section of the bridge, installing 116 new panels.

Only one lane was open in each direction during the work. Some access ramps were closed on the South Shore side and the lane width was reduced to three meters.
