Canmore RCMP say two women living in the mountain town west of Calgary have been taken for more than $300,000 in an online dating scam.
Police say a man used an online dating site to solicit money from the women through wire transfers.
They say the suspect initiates relationships with women and soon request large sums of money, promising he'll pay them back when he receives money from fictitious sources.
Officers say the suspect is convincing and gains trust by making women believe they are in a real relationship with him.
Police are asking the public to be vigilant when dealing with unknown persons online.
