CNE Food Poisoning: Epic Burger And Waffles Reportedly Closed After 34 Report Symptoms Of Food-Borne Illness

Toronto Public Health Investigating After Reports Of Sickness At CNE

At least 12 people got sick and five of them were hospitalized after eating at the Canadian National Exhibition on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

UPDATE: Toronto Public Health said it received 34 reports of people getting sick at the CNE. It is investigating a number of foods, including the Cronut burger.

Toronto Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was called to the Ex after at least five CNE-goers complained of “gastrointestinal symptoms." Symptoms included stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

Toronto Public Health is responsible to making health inspections on all food building vendors before and during the fair. They look for cleanliness, food temperatures and sanitary practices. As of August 16 (the opening day of the CNE) Epic Burgers And Waffles had a passing green.

Le Dolci, a Toronto bakery and creator of the burger's cronut portion, says they will not comment on the incident until Toronto Public Health completes their investigation.

The cronut burger was one of this year's main attractions, along with sweet potato fries with Nutella and the chili flake and bacon "spice cream cone".
