Manitoba records first human case of West Nile virus this year

WINNIPEG - Manitoba health officials say they have identified the first human case of West Nile virus in the province this year.

The Health Ministry says the individual is a woman in her 40s from the Winnipeg Health Region.

She has reported mild symptoms.

It's believed she was bitten by an infected mosquito in the Winnipeg area earlier this summer.

Officials say while the risk of exposure to the virus is low overall, recent warm temperatures have increased activity by mosquito that carries West Nile.
