After 14 years, North Vancouver has finally bid farewell to Cameron Stewart, the district’s in-house signmaker known for his kooky sense of humour.
His legacy includes addressing skateboarders with signs saying, “Yo Skater” and canine-friendly “Attention Dogs: Grr, bark, woof. Good Dog.” versions – and he’s had a lot of fun making them.
“I can’t stop making signs,” Stewart told Metro News. “That’s just an incredible part of my life now.”
Stewart's sweetly anarchic signs aren't the only ones to have taken North Vancouver by surprise.
In February, Vancouver Aquarium planted a fin-shaped sign in shallow water beds along the city’s Seawall. When high tide came, people were buzzing and tweeting about a shark spotted in Vancouver’s waters until low tide revealed it was no fish at all.
Well played, Vancouver Aquarium.
Science World has been making an impact with their imaginative campaigns produced in partnership with ad agency Rethink, until recently, that is. The latest – a set of racy ads devised to promote their sexuality exhibit – were deemed too sexy to be posted on the city's bus stops.
