A 52-year-old Edmonton woman has been charged in connection to her husband's death.
Nyuk Hwang was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder after autopsy results revealed that 56-year-old Teck Hwang was severely beaten, and died from blunt drastic trauma early Monday morning, police said in a news release.
“(It’s) something I, personally as a homicide investigator, have never heard of before. It was described by the medical examiner as a very severe beating type injuries,” EPS Homicide Staff Sgt. Bill Clark said to Metro News, adding that there were indications an object was used in the beating.
Paramedics responded to a medical distress call at a home near 84 Street and 160 Avenue around 10 p.m. Sunday, where they found a man in cardiac arrest.
Paramedics noticed the man was injured and he was was transported to hospital, where he stopped breathing several times but was revived by hospital staff.
He died around 2:50 a.m. on Monday, police said. The incident is being called a case of domestic violence.
Nyuk Hwang was previously charged with assault causing bodily harm in 2008, and served a three-week sentence, according to Global News. The couple's teenage son, who was at home during the incident, is traumatized and in touch with children's services.
“I can’t encourage the public enough to get involved and contact police immediately, if they have information about a domestic violence situation. They might just save a life," said Sgt. Clark.
Nyuk Hwang’s first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
