Wickenheiser signs sponsorship deal with Canadian Tire ahead of Winter Olympics

CALGARY - Canadian women's hockey star Hayley Wickenheiser has signed a two-year sponsorship deal with Canadian Tire.

The retail company will sponsor both Wickenheiser and her international annual girl's hockey festival.

Wickenheiser, from Shaunavon, Sask., is the captain of Canada's women's team and its all-time leading scorer.

She's training full-time with the team in Calgary for what will be her sixth Olympics.

The 35-year-old old joins hockey players Jonathan Toews and Sidney Crosby, soccer player Christine Sinclair, alpine skier Eric Guay, speedskater Charles Hamelin, skeleton racer Jon Montgomery and bobsleigh driver Kaillie Humphries among Canadian Tire's stable of sponsored athletes.

The Canadian Tire Wickenheiser World Female Hockey Festival will be held Nov. 21-14 in Calgary after three years of Wickenheiser hosting the event in Burnaby, B.C.
