Police are warning women who reside in or around the University of Alberta after an early morning assault on Sunday.
A woman was walking home alone from work at around 3:30 a.m. near 111 Street and 82 Avenue when she was struck in the face, police said in a news release on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old victim allegedly fell to the ground before being choked by her attacker.
Police say the man briefly fled the scene, which gave the woman enough time to enter her secure apartment. He then returned and tried to enter the building, banging violently on the lobby window.
The woman ran to her suite and contacted police. The accused is described as a 6’ 0” tall, and wore a bright blue ski mask.
Police are reminding women to take precautions when walking through the community at night.
This isn't the first time a woman has been attacked in the area. Several women were allegedly assaulted near Garneau and Whyte Avenue. Many of the cases were of sexual assault, and the assailant or assailants have never been caught, according to Global News.
