Rob Ford On Marijuana: 'Oh, Yeah.. I've Smoked A Lot Of It'

'I've Smoked A Lot' Of Pot

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has become the latest Canadian politician to admit he's tried marijuana.

And apparently he's had his fair share.

"Oh, yeah. I’ve smoked a lot of it," he told reporters Wednesday, according to the Toronto Star.

Ford was asked to react to admissions by both federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne that they have smoked pot in the past.

"I don’t know why they are all coming out," Ford said. "You’ve got to ask them."

The Toronto Sun's Don Peat reports Ford was whisked away by handlers after he was asked when he last smoked marijuana.

But Ford's admission shouldn’t really come as a huge surprise.

Back in 1999, Ford was arrested in Florida for drunk driving and marijuana possession. The arrest resurfaced during his 2010 mayoral campaign but failed to halt his momentum en route to a landslide victory.

According to his arrest affidavit, Ford told a Miami-Dade County cop to "go ahead and take me to jail" before a joint was found in his back pocket.

Ford later told the Sun the charges were dropped for reasons he couldn't remember.

"Was it wrong? Absolutely it was wrong and I made a mistake," he said back in 2010. "You learn by your mistakes."

Since becoming mayor of Canada's largest city, Ford has been accused several times of being intoxicated in public and, infamously, of being caught on tape smoking crack cocaine. Ford has denied the crack video exists and that he has a drinking problem.

As for Wynne, she told reporters Wednesday the last time she smoked a joint was 35 years ago, before she was elected to provincial parliament.

Politicians across Canada are being asked if they've tried cannabis since Trudeau told HuffPost Canada he smoked pot after he was elected to the House of Commons in 2008.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has said he stayed away from the drug after seeing a U.S. Supreme Court nominee Douglas H. Ginsburg withdraw after it emerged he had smoked marijuana in college.

Liberal MP Marc Garneau told CBC's Evan Solomon last week he smoked a couple of times as a student in the 1970s. "It's not my thing," he said. "I stopped because it wasn't doing anything for me."

Fellow Grit MP Scott Brison also admitted to smoking weed a long time ago.

"I did inhale," Brison said.
