Coquitlam shooting victim had ties to Prince George gangs

A man killed in a targeted shooting in Coquiltam, B.C., on Tuesday had a criminal record and ties to criminal gangs in Prince George.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound says Joey Lamont Arrance, 34, was shot while sitting inside an SUV in a parking lot. He fled in his vehicle, but later died of his injuries.

Court records show Arrance was found guilty of possessing a prohibited weapon, and breach of undertaking last year. The Civil Forfeiture Office was in the process of seizing over $200,000 worth of jewelry and cash from Arrance.

Arrance also appears to have a history in Prince George, where police alleged he was a member of a drug gang called the Game Tight Soldiers. Police allege the gang moved north to Prince George several years ago from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

In 2010, a house where Arrance and two other women were living in Prince George was destroyed by a fire, claiming the life of one of the women.

The investigation into his shooting death continues.
