Man dies as police investigate bar fight

Ontario’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate after a man died while police responded to a bar fight early Thursday.

Police were called to Remington’s Bar at 379 Yonge St. south of Gerrard just after 2 a.m. A man was arrested and at some time during the arrest he had a medical emergency and was taken to hospital.

As of 6 a.m., Yonge Street remained closed between Gould Street and Dundas Avenue West while police investigated.

The SIU is called in to investigate when someone dies or is injured while in contact with police.

Yonge Street near Gould will likely remain closed until at least 9 a.m.
