Nine Inch Nails (NIN) fans are rejoicing after the American Industrial Rock project announced the release of the 8th album "Hesitation Marks", out on September 3rd. The album is mastered in two ways, the standard, "loud" mastering -- what you get with iTunes, for example -- and the "audiophile" mastering version, for those with high-end equipment, available as a free download version for those who purchased the new album on nin.com.
"Hesitation Marks"' Mastering Engineer Tom Baker explains, "The standard version is “loud” and more aggressive and has more of a bite or edge to the sound with a tighter low end. The Audiophile Mastered Version highlights the mixes as they are without compromising the dynamics and low end, and not being concerned about how “loud” the album would be. The goal was to simply allow the mixes to retain the spatial relationship between instruments and the robust, grandiose sound."
But it seems that NIN is really committed to pleasing their fans--they've made "Hesitation Marks" available for streaming on Deezer.com, until September 3rd.
NIN is currently on tour and will be making an appearance in Montreal on October 3rd, October 4th in Toronto, and November 21st in Vancouver.
