Residents of Gander complain about repeated flooding in their town

GANDER, N.L. - Some residents in Gander, N.L., say more has to be done to prevent further flooding in their town.

Over the weekend, more than 125 millimetres of rain fell on the community in central Newfoundland.

More than 200 residents have contacted municipal officials to report property damage.

A meeting Wednesday at the community's town hall heard from some residents who said flooding has become a bigger problem since an industrial park was built.

Claude House, a resident since 1970, says some of his neighbours can't sell their homes.

A municipal spokesman says the problem can be traced to the network storm water pipes beneath the ground that couldn't handle the deluge.
