U.S. hiker falls to his death on trail in Banff National Park

BANFF, Alta. - A 54-year old man from Massachusetts is dead following a hiking accident in Banff National Park.

The man was hiking with his wife Sunday afternoon on the Parker Ridge Trail when the woman became tired and returned to the car.

The man decided to finish the hike.

RCMP Sgt. Jeff Campbell says the victim then became disoriented and left the trail.

Campbell says it appears the man lost his footing and went over a cliff.

Search and rescue crews found the man’s body at the base of the 200-metre-tall cliff on Monday morning.
