EDMONTON - An Edmonton police officer has been charged with dangerous driving causing death in a crash last year that killed an 84-year-old woman.
Alberta's Serious Incident Response Team says the plainclothes officer was conducting surveillance and was driving an unmarked police car at the time of the crash in March 2012.
The woman was turning left at a south-side intersection, crossing the path of the officer's car, when the two vehicles collided.
The officer suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Const. Chris Luimes is to appear in court Oct. 10.
The response team is the agency that investigates incidents involving police officers that result in serious injury or death.
Authorities had previously identified the woman killed in the crash as Anne Cecilia Walden.
The officer involved reportedly had been on the job for six years at the time of the crash.
