Lotto 6/49 hikes price to $3, adds new prizes

Lotto 6/49 players will be paying more for their shot at becoming millionaires beginning on Sunday.

Changes to Lotto 6/49 means the lottery tickets will cost $3 instead of $2. The price change is the first in nearly a decade.

Courtney Pringle-Carver, a spokesperson for the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, said ticket buyers will also get more chances to win.

“Lottery players will now have a chance to win a guaranteed $1-million prize on each and every draw. jackpots will also start at $5 million and there will be a new free play prize that can be won by matching just two out of six numbers,” she said.

There will also be changes to the price and prizes for the Atlantic 49 lottery. Those tickets are only sold in Atlantic Canada.

The first draw using the new Lotto 6/49 will be held on Wednesday.

In anticipation for the change there will be a planned outage on Sunday at Lotto 6/49 retailers and on Players will not be able to purchase tickets during this time.
