Wildfire smoke could drift into Prince George region

Residents of Prince George and Quesnel may soon see smoke from a large blaze burning in Tweedsmuir North Provincial Park, wildfire officials say.

The fire is burning on the north shore at the east end of Eutsuk Lake and is estimated to be about 120 hectares.

Any further growth may cause smoke to drift into the urban areas, according to the Wildfire Management Branch.

The blaze is burning in an isolated area and is not threatening any communities or infrastructure but will be monitored frequently, officials said.

The fire danger rating throughout the Northwest Fire Centre and the Prince George Fire Centre is currently moderate to extreme, with hot and dry weather expected through the weekend.
