Officer dragged during police chase in northeastern B.C.

A driver is facing several Criminal Code charges after allegedly fleeing from officers during a traffic stop, and then ramming his car into a police vehicle.

RCMP say officers saw a grey car speeding down Highway 29 near the district of Chetwynd, in northeastern B.C., on Saturday evening.

They observed the male driver allegedly tossing a beer can out of the window and were in the process of detaining him for a drunk driving investigation when the man fled on foot.

Police say when the man jumped back into his car, an officer tried to stop him, but ended up being dragged alongside the car because the suspect held on to the officer's arm for some distance.

The officer sustained minor injuries, but managed to break free while other officers continued pursuing the fleeing car.

Mounties say the suspect, who is known to the B.C. RCMP, was finally captured and arrested after allegedly ramming head-on into a police vehicle during the pursuit.
