LOOK: Nenshi Should Lay Off The Sports Bets

Is Naheed Nenshi trying to put the losing behind him before Calgary's upcoming municipal election?

The mayor was spotted wearing an Edmonton Oil Kings jersey in council meetings Monday, after losing a bet to Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel.

He wagered earlier this year that the Calgary Hitmen would win the WHL Eastern Conference against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Unfortunately for Nenshi, Edmonton won the final of the seven-game series, outscoring Calgary 2-0.

Like a good sport, Nenshi finally honoured his end of the deal but lamented the lack of purple (the mayor's campaign colour) in the red and blue jersey.

"Looks great on you! Thanks for playing!," Mandel tweeted back.

Last fall, Nenshi had a friendly wager with Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, insisting the Calgary Stampeders would hoist the Grey Cup in victory.

When the Argonauts bested the Stampeders, Nenshi wore their blue and white jersey to council budget talks.

As well, Nenshi also donated Ford's weight in food, an estimated 330 lbs., to Toronto's food bank.
