Richmond Hill fire leaves man in critical condition

A man is in critical condition after he was pulled from a house fire on Lake Avenue in Richmond Hill early Tuesday.

At about 1:30 a.m., two people passing by heard smoke detectors ringing and tried to enter the house, but were turned back by heavy smoke. Both suffered minor smoke inhalation.

Richmond Hill Fire Chief Steve Kraft said fire trucks were on the scene in minutes.

“There was one elderly male patient inside,” he told CBC News. “Fire crews pulled him out of the house. He was semi-conscious.”

The fire caused extensive damage to the home.
