The Sûreté du Québec officer was arrested along with three associates and is now suspended with pay, according to provincial police.
Montreal police spokesman, Commander Ian Lafreniere, said the suspects have been released with a promise to appear later.
Police refused to release the names of the suspects.
Two city councillors from Beaconsfield told CBC the arrest is connected to an attack on Beaconsfield's director of urban planning, Denis Chabot.
Chabot was attacked and beaten in the Summerlea Golf Club’s parking lot in Vaudreuil-Dorion on Oct. 5, 2012, and briefly hospitalized.
The councillors said they are pleased an arrest has been made but could not say why Chabot was attacked.
Police said Chabot was attacked by two men who appeared to be 25 years old and escaped in a four-door grey car after the assault.
Lafreniere said more arrests are possible.
