Polaris Prize 2013 Very Competitive And Eclectic (VIDEO)

Who Will Win The 2013 Polaris Prize?
Warner

The Polaris Music Prize, a not-for-profit organization celebrating the best Canadian album of the past year, is gearing up to reward one Canadian act with a $30,000 prize and priceless bragging rights, on Monday, Sept. 23rd 2013.

After 200 jury members (made up of music journalists, bloggers and broadcasters) winnow the options down to a 40 album long list and then a 10 album short list, an 11-member grand jury spends the gala backstage hashing out the winning album without regard to musical genre, sales or any factor aside from "highest artistic integrity."

Last year, Feist was the recipient of Polaris Music Prize for her spellbinding album "Metals," while Arcade Fire's Grammy-winner "The Suburbs" snatched the prize in 2011.

Each year the competition is fierce, and 2013 is no exception but it may also be the most diverse and eclectic list yet. Anyone who dismisses Polaris as an indie rock award should take a better listen to this year's Polaris Music Prize Short List nominees:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor, "‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!"

Zaki Ibrahim, "Every Opposite"

Metric, "Synthetica"

METZ , "METZ"

Purity Ring, "Shrines"

Colin Stetson, "New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light"

Tegan and Sara, "Heartthrob"

A Tribe Called Red, "Nation II Nation"

Whitehorse, "The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss"

Young Galaxy, "Ultramarine"
