Downtown Toronto living is about to get whole a lot smaller.
The city’s first micro-condos, geared towards “people who choose to live small (and smartly),” are in the works. They’re planned for a 25-storey building called Smart House, located at Queen Street and University Avenue. Units will measure 300 sq. ft. and up, and prices are expected to start at $249,000 when they go on sale in October, according to the Toronto Star.
Although they’re tiny, “clever design” makes them feel larger, according to Smart House.
For example, features include an “extra-deep counter space with an additional fully-retractable countertop” and multipurpose furniture, like a desk that converts into a bed.

Amenities include an exercise room, a lounge, a terrace and a show kitchen.
Toronto’s micro-condos come after similar spaces on Canada’s West Coast made headlines.
Micro-condos went on sale in Surrey, B.C. earlier this year, measuring 297 sq. ft. and starting at $109,000. They appeal to young folks and retirees who want to downsize, building developer Charan Sethi told CTV.
“Micro-lofts” in Vancouver, measuring 226 to 291 sq. ft., were unveiled in 2011 and went for $850 a month, CBC reported.
