Numbers released by Statistics Canada Thursday detailing population growth across the country - as well as its regional breakdown - should come as no surprise.

It's not the fact that Alberta is officially the fastest growing province in the country but the rate at which is growing, compared to all other regions in Canada, that is staggering.

Although the population of Canada - which as of July 1, 2013 stands at an estimated 35,158,300, up 404,000 - grew 1.2 per cent year over year, Alberta's population grew by 3.4 per cent, according to Stats Canada.

An estimated 4,025,074 people now call Alberta home, thanks mostly to migration, says the federal agency reports.

"Record levels of international migration and interprovincial migration to the province explain this growth in Alberta," it states.

Nunavut recorded a year-over-year growth of 2.5 per cent but the next province after Alberta in terms of growth rate is Saskatchewan which recorded a 1.9 per cent population growth.

This tweet is so important it requires many superfluous periods. 1.1 million. people. in. Saskatchewan. That. is. fantastic.

According to Stats Canada, Alberta has also seen the strongest growth over the last 30 years.

Although Ontario has posted some significant growth numbers over that same time period - Ontario's population grew by 38.5 per cent over the last 30 years - Alberta grew by an unprecendented 50.8 per cent over the last three decades.
