Saskatoon hospitals jammed, patients who need care can't get a bed

SASKATOON - Saskatoon's three hospitals continue to be under intense pressure, with 12 people waiting for beds.

The Saskatoon Health Region says the problem is that 49 patients are in acute-care beds waiting for long-term care beds.

And another 24 patients were waiting Friday to be assessed on whether they should be sent to long-term care facilities.

On Thursday the region activated its regional emergency response system to handle a record number of patients.

The region says it may transfer some people to personal care homes to free up some beds.
