Toronto man faces charges in fatal Markham crash

A Toronto man faces impaired and dangerous driving charges after a deadly weekend crash in Markham, Ont.

York Regional Police were called to the scene of a crash that occurred at Ninth Line and Elgin Mills Road, at 9:20 p.m. on Sunday.

Police say the crash resulted from a northbound Mazda crossing the centre lane and striking a southbound Honda Odyssey van.

A passenger in the Odyssey was killed in the crash. The drivers of both vehicles survived.

Police issued a news release on Monday, saying that the Mazda driver faced six impaired and dangerous driving-related charges.

Amrith Angunawela, 22, of Toronto, was due to appear in a Newmarket, Ont., court on Monday.
