Fire breaks out in Downtown Eastside building

Firefighters are at the scene of a fire at Hastings and Carrall streets in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

It appears the fire may have started above the Liberty Market store on Hastings Street, filling the surrounding area with white smoke on Tuesday afternoon.

At 5 p.m. PT, the fire appeared to be out, but Hastings Street remains closed to traffic between Main and Carrall streets.

Const. Brian Montague told CBC News in an email that Vancouver Police "have not been made aware of any victims."

There is no further information available at this time.

More details to come.
