This question seems to come up a lot now that the U.S. government has pulled the plug on itself for the first time in 17 years.

Although it's hard to blame marijuana enthusiasts across the land for their optimism, especially when there is certainly no shortage of self-styled authorities on the Twitterverse.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight. (HINT: Check out the Twitter handle.)

Yes, the U.S. government is on hold -- with bickering Democrats and Republicans unable to agree on a short-term budget to fund itself. But no, the Big Hiatus doesn't mean all laws have been erased.

Here's the thing: Although, as reported in The Canadian Press, more than a third of the federal civilian workforce is now off duty — about the combined workforce of Target, General Motors, Exxon and Googleessential employees keep on trucking.

That group includes border patrol agents, food inspectors and, yes, the kindly police officers that enforce the laws of the land.

All the same, here's a sampling of the unbridled hope and optimism of America's youth -- well, we hope that's youth.
