Two Canadians who were arrested during protests in Egypt and then imprisoned have posted a video on YouTube thanking those who worked to get them out.
Toronto-based filmmaker John Greyson and Tarek Loubani, a doctor from London, Ontario, put up the short clip Wednesday on Greyson's YouTube account.
"50 days inside, three days outside, we thought we'd say hi," says Greyson.
"Hi to all of our friends, hi to all of our families, hello to all of the very wonderful people who worked so hard to make this day possible for us. Hello," Loubani says.
The two remain under investigation by Egyptian authorities, and it is unclear when they will be able to leave the country and come back to Canada, according to an official.
"The public prosecutor office and the investigative judge should decide whether they will be tried before a court, or the whole investigation file should be closed and then they'll have the right to go home," Badr Abdelatty said.
"We're stuck a bit, the ordeal is not over. But for now we thought we'd say hi," Greyson says.
"Our thoughts are with the prisoners and their families who are still inside."
The two were arrested on August 16 and placed in Cairo's crowded Tora prison, where they were "sleeping on concrete with the cockroaches" and sharing "a single tap of Nile water" with six others.
