Hit-and-run victim's family appeals to driver

The mother of a 16-year-old girl who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run more than a month ago says she can forgive the unidentified driver, but she needs to know what happened to her only child.

Annie Leung, 16, died in hospital after she was struck in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Mary Hill Road and Pitt River Road in Coquitlam on Sept. 10.

Surveillance video released by police shows a man getting out of his truck, looking to see what happened, and then getting back in his truck and driving away.

Today, Annie's mother Maggie begged the driver to come forward.

"We can forgive you and we believe Annie will forgive you too as she was such a kind, caring child in her life," she said.

Police are looking for an older man with greying hair. Police initially described the suspect vehicle as an older model Ford F-150 pick-up truck with a black canopy, but later described the vehicle as simply "a large black truck."

The suspect vehicle was last seen heading south on Mary Hill Road.

Anyone with any information about the collision or the identity of the driver is asked to contact the Coquitlam RCMP Traffic Services at 604-945-1550 or to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
