Fire Breaks Out In Downtown New Westminster

Firefighters are fighting a large fire on Columbia and MacKenzie streets in downtown New Westminster, B.C., on Thursday morning.

Eyewitnesses say the fire broke out before 4 a.m. PT and by 5 a.m. the building was engulfed in flames.

At least four fire trucks are on site fighting the flames, and by 6 a.m. the building had collapsed and the fire was reportedly under control.

The building used to house the old Copps family shoe store, but recently opened as a new bridal shop, according to resident Sheryl Goudreau. A restaurant and barber shop in the building have also reportedly been destroyed.

Traffic has been shut down on Columbia and Front streets between 6th and 8th streets in the area.

There are no reports of any injuries.
