Thanksgiving in Canada: Reasons We Celebrated In The Past (PHOTOS)

Sometimes the government of Canada does beautiful and majestic things, like keeping a record of all the official reasons we've celebrated Thanksgiving since 1799.

Do you know why Lower Canada celebrated Thanksgiving in February of 1838? "For the termination of the rebellion" of course. Twenty days prior, in Upper Canada, the reason for Thanksgiving was to "continue God's mercies."

After confederation, Thanksgiving was usually held for "blessings of an abundant harvest," but some specific occasions were marked with the holiday, such as the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902 or, you know, "to continue God's mercies."
