HNIC Radio: How Hawks are trying to avoid Cup hangover

Stan Bowman says it's not easy being the defending champions.

The Chicago Blackhawks general manager spoke with hosts Rob Pizzo and Craig Simpson on Hockey Night in Canada Radio on SiriusXM Tuesday about what it's like to open a new NHL season after taking home the Stanley Cup last spring.

Bowman and the Blackhawks have been here before. They followed up their Stanley Cup-winning season in 2010 with a first-round playoff exit the following year — an experience the GM says the team has learned from.

"I think the one thing that helps us the most is that we have a number of players who went through this before and they realized how difficult it was to start that next season after you've won the Cup.

"And I think from within, those guys want to have a better start to the season than we did," Bowman said of his Blackhawks, who are off to a 3-1-1 start this season.
