Joshua Semotiuk, Edmonton Mayoral Candidate, Endorsed By Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister

Edmonton Mayoral Candidate Gets Best Endorsement Ever!

When an Edmonton mayoral candidate passes on the suit and tie in favour of a Motorhead shirt and a leather jacket, there is only one endorsement that counts.

Joshua Semotiuk's opponents may be slick, career politicians but none of them have what the 29-year-old bearded, tattooed electrician has – an endorsement from Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

The endorsement came last week when the rocker, affectionately known to legions of fans only as Lemmy, posted a story about the Edmonton candidate on his personal Facebook page – complete with a photo of Semotiuk wearing a Corb Lund ball cap, leather jacket and Motorhead shirt.

"My kind of Mayor! Good luck Josh! Cheers!!!" reads the comment on the post.

Canadian Endorsements In U.S. Election

The post was shared more than 1,000 times and received dozens of comments.

"Makes me wish I was Canadian so I could vote for him! Go Josh!" said Andy Behling.

"I live in Vancouver. If he gets in, I'm moving," said Jarrod Koot.

Semotiuk's affinity for the metal band is becoming common knowledge around Edmonton due to the fact he's worn hist trusty Motorhead t-shirt to debates and other forums around the city.

As for Lemmy, he wasn't done with Semotiuk yet. The L.A.-based English rocker had one more endorsement under his sleeve and he unleashed it late Tuesday night.

"Vote for Josh for Mayor!!! Motorhead For Life!!" reads the post attached to another story about Josh, again wearing his Motorhead getup.

"I live and Edmonton and he has my vote!" wrote Paul Paterson.

"I don't live in Edmonton, but Josh has my support! Cheers!" replied James Eric Reid.

The political neophyte, who's refused donations – Semotiuk doesn't want to have to answer to anyone if elected – and who's found a following for speaking his mind without shooting people down, told gigcity.ca Lemmy's support is "pretty awesome.

"How would you feel if one of the Gods of rock backed you as mayor’s candidate?”

CLARIFICATION: A previous version of this story called Lemmy a "L.A. rocker" when he is, in fact, a proud Englishman who lives in Los Angeles.
