Association spokesman Halvor Lea said Bjoerndalen forgot to inform inspectors that he had extended a training visit to Oslo by a week. He said inspectors from the Austrian anti-doping agency NADA had tried to reach Bjoerndalen in Obertillach on Oct. 11 when he was still in Norway.
Bjoerndalen told Norwegian daily Verdens Gang he regrets what happened. He said such a thing "should not happen and was caused by sloppiness from my side."
Bjoerndalen, who is the most decorated biathlete in Olympic history, said he continues to believe doping should be criminalized and investigated by police.
