'Single And Dating In Vancouver': New Web Series Explores Love In The City

Web Series Takes On Vancouver's Dating Scene

Ah, Vancouver. A city famous for its beauty, and infamous for its hard-to-crack dating scene.

Last summer, The Vancouver sun asked why it's so hard to score here? Vancouver Magazine asked if Vancouver men suck, which resulted in a reader questioning if it's actually theVancouver women who suck? In September, Vancouver women were voted the pickiest in Canada.

Vancouver's people are as beautiful as its landscapes, but does that mean it's easy to find love in the "greenest city in the world"? A new web series aims to find out.

"Single & Dating In Vancouver" is a scripted web comedy series that aims to explore, and poke fun at, the rough exterior of Vancouver's singles. The series recently launched a Kickstarter page, with the goal of raising $1,900 by the end of the month.

According to the crowdfunding profile, the series "not only features the highlights (and lowlights) of single life in Vancouver, but also showcases the very distinct courtship nuances and idiosyncracies that make Vancouver’s dating scene unique — from commitment-shy men arriving for dates in a hoodie, to seemingly unapproachable, uber-picky women avoiding all eye contact on the street."

Produced by Troy Mundle, the show's first season will have six episodes—the first three of which are already completed, the last three of which need funding from the campaign—and, according to its website, will follow Troy McMaster (Mundle), a single actor who just moved to Vancouver from rural Ontario. It is through Troy that the audience meets the other lovelorn cast members: Michael (Michael Goudge), Sheri (Sheri Rabold), and Chad (Chad Riley).

Making the city a character in its own right, the show has already filmed at known Vancouver spots Raw Canvas, Moksha Yoga, and Ginger62, according to the Kickstarter profile.

A teaser has been released, showing the four characters and hinting at some of the dating challenges they face. The first three episodes will be launched at the end of the month.
