(Relaxnews) - More details have emerged about Disney’s plans to bring James Cameron’s fictional "Avatar" paradise Pandora to life, with attractions that suspend floating mountains in the sky and recreate the planet’s bioluminescent plants.

Set to open in Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, guests will be transported to the mystical, utopian world of Cameron’s blockbuster 3D movie "Avatar," where mountains float weightlessly in the air and the planet’s flora and fauna glow in the dark.

First announced in 2011, Disney chairman Tom Staggs revealed more details on the project in a blog post recently, with artist renderings showing guests riding a boat on a nocturnal cruise through the whimsical jungle, and families walking through the Pandora-themed paradise.

The park will also feature a ride that simulates a flight through the air on a mountain Banshee, the pterodactyl-like bird predator in the film.

The Avatar attraction is part of the largest expansion in the park’s history that will also include live shows and more nighttime entertainment such as the nocturnal version of the Kilimanjaro Safaris.

The Avatar area is set to open in 2017.
