Eleven murals are due to be completed by the end of this month.
The artists who have designed them have taken inspiration from stories they have heard from local residents about how the community was built, and about the people who helped make it what it is today.
“We brought together intergenerational LGBT people — those who were pioneers who really fought at the front lines to make sure that we had the civic and equality rights that we have today,” Toronto city Coun. Kristyn Wong-Tam said.
Wong-Tam said the murals will also help tell the neighbourhood’s story when the city hosts World Pride next year.
