Reny Gagnon, the former campaign director for Laval mayoral candidate Claire Le Bel, may be charged with mischief after reporting to police he’d been attacked.
The S-Q say it has finished its investigation and the dossier is now in the hands of prosecutors.
La Presse reported Gagnon will be charged this week.
Gagnon said he was approached by two men on the side of the highway on Oct. 7, the day after the media reported on a secretly-recorded conversation between Le Bel and former Laval mayor Gilles Vaillancourt.
Le Bel said Vaillancourt offered to help fund her bid for mayor. The mayoral candidate refused to connect the Vaillancourt tape and Gagnon’s attack at an Oct. 8 news conference, but did say she was scared and that she was under police protection.
Days later, Gagnon quit as Le Bel’s campaign director when police expressed doubts about the alleged assault.
There are no indications that Le Bel knew anything about Gagnon’s story.
