Charges have been upgraded against a 16-year-old in an apparent car surfing stunt in Brampton that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old friend of the accused.
Friends mourn Brampton man killed in fall from car.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named, was facing charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing bodily harm. Police announced Friday those charges have been upgraded to criminal negligence and dangerous driving causing death.
The charges stem from an incident on Tuesday afternoon, when Peel Regional Police say a silver 1998 Honda Civic was driving in a parking lot in the Father Tobin Road and Bramalea Road area.
Police say the 19-year-old — since identified as Royal Virk — was injured when he fell from the trunk of the moving car.
Virk was taken to a Toronto trauma centre in critical condition and died in hospital the following night.
The 16-year-old facing charges has been released with a promise to appear at a future court date.
