Calgary, Southern Alberta, Snowfall Warnings Remain In Effect

LOOK: Snow Covers Calgary, Edmonton

Calgary and Edmonton welcomed their first snowfall of the season on Sunday, while a snowfall warning continues for southern Alberta.

According to Environment Canada, 10 to 20 centimetres of snow is expected in Calgary and the foothills region by Monday morning, while Drumheller, Red Deer and Medicine Hat are expected to receive 5 to 10 centimetres.

Edmonton received a thin dusting of snow, with temperatures expected to rise within the next few days, according to the Edmonton Journal.

City crews were out early on Sunday in Calgary, to salt major routes and prevent ice build-up, CBC reports.

"Ok, you know the drill on first snowfall. Crews will be out all night but morning rush will be bad," said Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi on Twitter.

While some welcomed the first snow of the season, others weren't quite ready.

"Snow, snow go away," said Arielle Berze on Twitter.

"Starting to become a winter wonderland," said Echo Bryan.

Snowfall warnings are in effect for all of southern Alberta including, Airdrie, Banff and Jasper National Parks, Lethbridge, Crowsnest Pass and Fort Macleod.
