A massage parlour has been shut down in southeast Calgary over allegations of prostitution.
Police say Paradise Spa, located at 3155 34th Ave. S.E., has been a problem property for over a decade, and was operating 100 feet away from a daycare, Global News reports.
Police issued a 30-day closure after a joint investigation by the Calgary Police Service and ALERT's Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Unit.
"Sometimes Dover and Forest Lawn and communities like that get a bit of a bad wrap. And I'll tell you, we do a lot of work in these communities. But there are a lot of good people who live in these communities and they don't deserve to have to live with this," said investigator Glenn Stuart to CBC News, adding around 150 such massage parlours are operating in Calgary.
An employee at the facility is facing unspecified charges, and police say the parlour was a front for prostitution.
"What we found is we would charge the workers and they would just change the name, get some new employees and the business would continue to act as a front for prostitution," said S/Sgt Robert Rutlege of the CPS Vice Unit to CTV News.
