Priyanka Chopra Is The New Guess Girl (PHOTOS)

Guess Makes History With New Model

Known for casting blond haired, blue-eyed beauties for their ad campaigns, Guess has decided to change their ways.

The American fashion brand has cast Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra as their latest Guess girl -- a famed spot that has previously been occupied by Claudia Schiffer, Anna Nicole Smith, Drew Barrymore and Kate Upton, just to name a few. Chopra, who will appear in the ads come December, is the first Indian model for the brand.

"For a global fashion brand, for them to move their campaign into a global space, for me it's an honour," she told Women's Wear Daily.

Chopra was chosen by Guess CEO Paul Marciano, who's dubbed her the new Sophia Loren, and if the images are any indication, he's right. The black and white images (which are absolutely stunning!) were shot by rocker and photographer Bryan Adams, and they feature the former Miss World sporting Guess's signature teased hair and thick cat eyeliner while lounging on a Mediterranean island.

The ads come after fellow Bollywood actress Nandita Das stood up for the "Dark is Beautiful" campaign, which calls out India's obsession with fair skin. The campaign also follows the recent Miss America competition, which was won by Nina Davaluri, the first contestant of Indian descent to win. Davuluri was the target of hateful comments online from individuals who felt she didn't represent the United States because of her background and colour of skin.

Calling for diversity in fashion is nothing new, which is why we're glad to see a mega-brand like Guess open up their roster to someone other than a buxom blonde. We wish more companies would embrace beauty in every colour, but we'll take this as a step in the right direction.
