Flames' Mark Giordano breaks ankle, out 6-8 weeks

The Calgary Flames will be without their top scoring defenceman this season, Mark Giordano, for six to eight weeks after he suffered a broken ankle, the NHL team announced Tuesday.

Giordano has two goals and nine points in eight games this season with a minus-3 rating. He hasn't played since Oct. 21 but the Flames had been vague about the injury until Tuesday.

Flames forward Lee Stempniak also has a broken ankle and is out on a week-to-week basis, while defenceman Chris Breen is day to day with an abdominal strain.
