Newfoundland NDP to hold leadership review vote in May:party executive

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Newfoundland and Labrador New Democrats will vote to decide on Lorraine Michael's fate as leader in May of next year.

The party's executive met Tuesday after a request for a leadership review following a week of public infighting over leadership.

President Kathleen Connors says the board will decide later on the level of support needed for Michael to keep her job.

Connors says changes to the party constitution that could see a leadership review vote held at every non-leadership convention are also under consideration.

The executive meeting was called prior to the resignation of Dale Kirby and Chris Mitchelmore who announced they would be sitting as Independents.

Both have said they are leaving the NDP caucus but have intentions to stay on as members of the party.
