Movember Plane Is Qantas' Pitch To The Moustache Movement For Men's Health

Qantas Airlines

(Relaxnews) - To help kick off Movember, Qantas Airways has emblazoned a giant black mustache on the nose of a Boeing jet which will fly across Australia, birthplace of the worldwide movement for men’s health.

Modelled after the signature moustache of national Australian cricket hero Merv Hughes, the Qantas Boeing 737-800 will be dispatched to fly the length and width of the country during the entire month of November and will be renamed "The Merv" for the remainder of the month.

The movement, which essentially gives men an excuse to let their facial hair grow in wild and unruly ways in the name of a good cause, hits close to home for the Australian airline as CEO Alan Joyce is a prostate cancer survivor.

Born in Melbourne in 2003 from a dare between friends, the idea took on a life of its own and has since become a worldwide phenomenon with men in 21 countries growing “staches” -- or Mos -- to promote prostate cancer awareness.

‘Mo sistas’ participate by rallying fundraising.
