Multiple crashes occurred on Highway 2 on Saturday as road conditions in Alberta continue to deteriorate because of heavy snowfall.

RCMP say they have responded to ten collisions within five hours, two of which involved injuries.

The first collision involving injury occurred near Crossfield around noon, when a 1995 Geo passenger car lost control on the southbound lanes of the highway, went through the cable barrier in the middle, and collided with a Ford F150 traveling northbound.

The woman driving the 1995 car suffered minor injuries, while the man in the Ford was not hurt.

The second collision also occurred on Highway 2 near Crossfield around two hours later, when a Toyota van lost control and swerved into a Honda Civic.

A man and woman in the Civic were both transported to hospital in Calgary, while the man in the Toyota was not injured.

Both collisions are under investigation and speed and weather conditions are being investigated as factors.

RCMP reminded Alberta drivers to use extra caution as winter driving conditions begin and to avoid unnecessary travel.
